Abstract

Abstract

Introduction

In the area of orthodontic treatment, debonding brackets is one of the potential uses of lasers. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of Nd: YAG laser irradiation on shear bond strength (SBS), pulp temperature and ARI in stainless steel brackets.

Materials and Methods

48 extracted premolar teeth were selected. The Roth18 discovery stainless steel orthodontic brackets by composite was placed, and were cured .  The   samples   were     divided   into   4  groups.   In   three   groups of   study, the   Nd: YAG laser with a power of 1, 1.5and 2 w for 10 seconds was irradiated to  each sample, then they were placed in Universal Testing Machine to measure SBS. The temperature before and during the laser radiation was recorded by thermocouple K typ. Then 2 samples from each group were gone under SEM analysis.

Findings

The SBS of the groups deboned by laser radiation were evaluated and there was no significant difference (p = 0.205). There was a significant difference due after temperature (p=0.000).Difference temperatures also showed significant difference (p=   0.000). In the ARI study, the 1W groups and the control of similar results and groups 1.5 and 2 showed similar results.  In examining SEM images, in groups 1, 1.5and 2 W, unlike   the control group, enamel prisms were damaged followed the use of laser and amorphous enamel structure was seen.

Conclusion

In this study, there was no significant difference in SBS after using Nd: YAG laser in compared with control group. The maximum after temperature and consequently the difference temperature was related to the 2 w laser.
